Regional Heritage Forum Visit to De Rust

Saturday 30 March, 2019 @ 09h30 for 10h00

See "Heritage Now Newsletter of April, 2019" for details

The Southern Cape Regional Heritage Forum members are planning to visit De Rust on Saturday 30 March, 2019.  This visit was originally planned as a visit by the Simon van der Stel Foundation (Southern Cape) but has been expanded to include the other registered heritage bodies in the region following the recent formation of the Southern Cape & Klein Karoo Heritage Forum.

This is a multi-faceted program featuring a slice of history, mixed with the reality of the types of permanent structures which were constructed around the turn of the 1890's.  Prior to becoming a Village the De Rust District had been settled by a wide variety of farmers, traders and  others who were required to be resourceful while living a hard life in making a basic living for themselves and their families.  We aim to showcase the area in a more innovative way than just history or structures but attempt to paint a picture of life at the turn of the 19th Century.

The program is designed as an information event for all ages and  those planning on attending are encouraged to bring their families with them. Children are welcomed as part of the overall process as our heritage belongs to us all including the younger generation in looking to the future.
